New Mercies

God doesn't recycle mercy.

God doesn't ask us to reuse yesterday's mercy. He doesn't ask us to get innovative with last month's mercy. He doesn't deny our requests for mercy this year because He overextended His supply last year.

God doesn't recycle mercy.

God grants new mercies (PLURAL) every. single. morning.

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." -Lamentations 3:22-23

Sometimes, I don't allow myself to lean into God's new mercies. I don't feel worthy of them. I feel needy for requiring them. Instead of allowing His new mercies to cloak and cover me, I choose to stand in the cold. Shivering. Steeling myself against the wind.

I feel my rejection of God's new mercies has grieved Him.

His new mercies are evidence of His steadfast love and unwavering faithfulness. He knew we would need reminders. He is okay with us being needy before Him. He is okay with us crying out, "God, thank you for the mercies of yesterday, but I'm going to need those new mercies today."

After we pray that prayer, let's lean into the new mercies. Savor them. Allow them to cloak and cover us. Feel their weight. The mercies of yesterday were so good, but God, in His faithfulness, has new mercies to sustain us today.

And tomorrow.
